My measurement came from the mast while is was down. But I agree...better
safe than sorry.

We went through the Cape May canal with a Tayana 37 (54' mast above the
water) and it was a scary thing to see/hear the masthead antenna as it hit
the underside of the bridge. No damage just scary.

We measured about 36' from deck to sheave (loose measurement, willing to
be a bit long for margin of safety on clearance). I'll gladly take 35'
as the "official" number.

But the deck is also about 5 ft off the water, so clearance is more than
35 ft. The original question in the thread was "can I clear a 35 ft
bridge?"

To that, I say a resounding "No." At least not at high water, and you
had better have a 6+ ft tide to help you out.

Or try the old "heel her over" trick, but...if it's an opening bridge,
why not just request an opening?
