[Public-List] Rope main halyard?

Greetings,

Given the recent conversations about the potential main halyard (wire)
slipping between the sheave and the mast, I was curious as to what
recommendations might be for replacing the wire with rope/line.

Is there a preferred line diameter?  Brand/type? Any type to be sure to
avoid?
