[Public-List] In praise of our webmaster's efforts!

I also want to thank George for running the list and for running
it the way it is run. I'm all for simple, low-bandwidth
solutions.

I'm writing this from Hawaii. No, I didn't sail here, I'm
attending a conference of astronomers discussing ways to process
archive and distribute astronomy data.  Ironically, the wifi is
terrible. However, during the less interesting talks, I can still
interact with the mailing list.

The people who build astronomy websites tend to want to build
flashy, heavy websites. It must be admitted that these sites
usually look pretty nice. What users (i.e. astronomers) actually
want however, is speedy access to the data, with a minimum of
distractions. And that's what this mailing list (and
alberg30.org) provides.  Very light on the needless decoration,
very high on the actual useful content.

Every time I visit alberg30.org, I am reminded of how the web used
to be, before omni-present advertising when the web was mostly
used only by scientists. A good old website for a good old boat.
