John,

We plan on bringing Limerick (#227) down from Baltimore for the event.

Friday night, we will anchor out near Annapolis.   If we could tie up Saturday night at the NSHOF, that would be great.

I have already extended an invitation to Roberta, Limerick’s former owner to join us on Saturday and Sunday.

Thanks,

Jim Burns

A 30 Parade of Sail - 50th Anniversary Year - August 9th and 10th

As some of you already know, we are planning to hold a Parade of Sail into
Annapolis Harbor on August 9th. We will use the National Sailing Hall of
Fame (NSHoF) docks as our base. So far the permitting process with the USCG
and Annapolis Harbormaster are all go. We will have use of the docks at
NSHof as our dockage for approximately 20 boats and will gather on Saturday,
off the Naval Academy seawall at approximately 1100 to start the actual
parade.  Our hope is that we can parade close to 50 Alberg 30 boats, and
hence my "call to arms". I would like to gage the interest for both the
members and nonmembers to show your colors in the parade. Dependent on the
number of participants and how far they have to travel to be there for
Saturday, we will try to help in making arrangements for overnight anchorage
on Friday, in vicinity of the harbor. This should make it convenient  for
the boats and skippers to be on the parade starting line on Saturday.

Our parade route will take us from the outer harbor into Ego Alley for our
turn around and back out to the outer harbor. Dependent on the number of the
participating boats we may do this a couple of times or more. At the
conclusion, we will go back to the NSHoF for some food and drink and to
display our wonderful boats for the dignitaries and the general public to
visit.

I do know that many of you do have your favorite spots around Annapolis and
can comfortably make your own provisions for the overnight and the weekend
stay, however for some that may need some help to find a proper spot we have
association's resources that can help you to be pointed in the right
direction. We would very much like to bring into Harbor as many Alberg 30s
as we can and show off those beautiful boats for all to enjoy, so please get
in touch with me and let me know your plans.

The Annapolis Harbor is open on the first come, first serve basis and they
do not allow anchorage in the harbor proper. Anchorage is allowed in the
outer harbor and up some way on the Spa Creek. For the specific information
please see:
http://www.annapolis.gov/government/city-departments/harbormaster/facilities

The second part of this parade message is an invitation for the folks that
no longer have an Alberg, but would like to come and join us in the parade
as part of the crew on one of the parade boats. We would like to hear from
you, so that we can match you up with one of the parade boat skippers.
Please let me know by email or phone call if you would like to do that.

I am also looking for help from the folks that are reading this message that
can make contact with the past members or Alberg owners that are no longer
active members and encourage them to take a ride or have them or someone
else skipper their Alberg in the parade in order to maximize our boat
participation. Please help us in this endeavor by extending this invitation
to all Alberg owners past or present and association members or not.

The third part of this lengthy message is a call for participants in the Old
Timers Race (OTR) to be held on Sunday, August 10th. This race will be
sponsored for us by the Sailing Club of Chesapeake (SCC) and is open to all
Alberg 30s members or non-members  that want to participate. We are hopeful
that many parade participants will also become part of this one design race
and again we will try to match up some past Alberg owners with some current
A30 owners that are willing to lend out their boat for a day of racing or to
just provide a ride. We will do our best to accommodate all willing
participants. The race will be conducted around the government markers on
the Bay with the award ceremonies at the NSHoF at the conclusion of the
race.

More detail will be published about both events as we come closer to August.

Thanks, John.
