Thanks. Grab a copy of Moyers manual. Best dollars you will ever spend on your A4. He's a real southern gentlemen if you ever have a chance to meet or converse with him. Old fighter pilot meticulous and very thorough. Can say enough nive things about him as he got me sorted when I went down in Cape May. Also ask on the forums. Great support and very knowledgable folk who are very willing to help. 

Actually boatless at the moment but looking for a reasonable project Alberg with double settees no dinnette. Last boat was a Cal 2-29, good boat very capable but no side decks. Going forward was always a dance around the stays or a one way trip up on the coach roof...) Not my idea of fun.

If you here no grinding as you move the mechanism into foward repeat it a couple of times to confirm but the source should be there. Then inspect the sump  for debris. Use a turkey baster or oil extractor pump with a fine hose attached and inspect visually and with a magnet. I was surprised at the debris i found. Then follow the setup instructions on page 90 in the attached manual. Good luck.
