I'd suggest converting from composite wire/rope to all rope is good thing to
do...and you will have to change the sheave. With modern rope being what it
is, most of the reasons to use wire are gone.

I think the Association has a line on sheaves.  The one you've got is made
of tufnol - that's actually linen compressed in resin.  Tufnol sheaves are
very tough and long lasting, but it's not so easy to get them in large sizes
anymore.  Your new one will likely be delrin.
