Hi I have to think about that one. It was the French Canadian who makes the self steering. I believe he was the 1st one to sail around the world in an Alberg 30. Sounded like a neat idea.

Cost is next to nothing, except sunbella is expensive these days. A local fire department or forestry station is a good source for scrapped fire hose - once it sprouts a leak it gets surplused. Close off the ends and insert a small bicycle air nozzle and the hose inflates with a small bicycle pump. Stands up nicely until hit by a wave when then it collapses and pops up again whenst the water pressure goes away. Some early day circumnavigator wrote about this once. Cant remember who at this point, but the idea seemed to serve him (them) well- for i think i read this in several books. Cost is very low, except for time to test and assemble.

>> Hi George would really like to make my own. I was just hoping someone had a junk one I could weld on and modify. I really liked the the one on Mike Lehman's boat well built and functional. But I am to cheap they cost half the price of a new diesel motor and I would rather save up for one of them right now. But a new dodger would be nice. I have bent greenhouse bows and conduit but it is a lot different then stainless steel tube which is real dollars.
>> On another note building a new taffrail that was fun on 162 yesterday not finished yet. Built it out of Ipea wood. I had some here not going to be perfect but I want to get it done so I can go sailing. Thanks for responding chris
