[Public-List] Lubricants

Interesting. That jibes with what we was told some years ago that WD-40 is corrosive. Makes sense if it can weaken an iron oxide bond it must be pretty aggressive stuff.  Or does it corrode because there is no oil left to protect the metal??
Mike; did they happen to test CRC-556 ?

Cheers,  Rod

Interesting stuff Mike -

I had something about WD-40 explained to me that you folks may already know,
but I didn't.

Once WD-40 has evaporated, there is virtually no lubricant left.  In fact,
WD-40 will rinse off grease or thicker oil leaving what no lubrication
protection at all.  It should be considered a 'momentary' lubricant.

I had this explained to me in context of a car door lock I ruined by
injecting WD-40.  What I'd done was rinse out any lubricant that had been
present leaving no protection at all.

Interesting stuff.
