Bob

I will have the original owner contact you. He will be pleased to know that Kittiwake is in good hands. His name is Rolph Townshend and he lives in Severna Park.

Hi to all,

I’m not trying to hijack the thread, but I can’t seem to figure out how to start a new post. I just recently joined the ranks of A 30 owners. I purchased Hull # 76 from the Baltimore area. The seller only had the boat for a couple of years and didn’t appear to have spent a lot of time sailing her. The boat currently has no name that I’m aware of. Does anyone have any history / knowledge of this boat? I’m so looking forward to upcoming Association events and look forward to anything that anyone can provide in the way of the boats history. Also, if someone could offer advice on how to start new threads, that would be great.

Thanks In Advance,

Bob

Hi David, if it where me I would replace the tank. Gas is scary and dangerous compared to diesel. If it was diesel I wouldn't have any concern about a marine tex fix. My boy actually did this on an ancient Honda 90 metal gas tank the other day, with excellent results. But he isn't worried about fumes in the bilge blowing up the boat.

Probably nylon webbing for strapping is a good long term solution for holding down the tank. I used copper plumbers tape on my tank two years ago with good results, but clearly it will corrode away and need replacement a lot sooner than nylon strap. Wish I had used the nylon or something similar now, just to ensure longevity.

Good luck on the tank !

>> My 1967 Alberg 30 seems to have a pinhole leak in the gas tank. I thought about repairing it (which I have done on tractors, etc.) but I just am not comfortable doing this on the boat tank. My current tank is aluminum, 30" X 18" X 7" tall, mounted fairly high up at the forward end of the starboard cockpit and an 18 gallon which are 7.25" tall & 18" wide, the 12 shorter than my current tank & the 18 is 6" longer than teh current one. I should be able to make either fit with minor modifications. I assume that I will want nylon or similar tie downs rather than the "plumber's tape" metal ones my current tanks has. Thoughts or suggestions?
