   Mike(s)
I'm going to side with Gord on this. On Isa Lei I use Brightside on
the hull, but for wood I use old fashioned Rustoleum. Not the new
marine stuff, but the stuff we painted our tricycles with when we were
   kids.
Side note. Three years I was invited to a special tour of the Morgan
while she was going through her refit. At one stop the head of the job
told us about the special paint they were using on her. As we were
moving to the next stop I commented that I was going to have to change
my paint of choice. He asked me what I used and I told him Rustoleum,
   he simply said "Don't change".

Brightside is polyurethane...very hard paint but not normally
   recommended
for wood because with hardness comes low flexibility. I reckon it
   worked on
your spreaders because the oak is relatively stable with regard to
   expansion
   and contraction....
