Jim,
We've got a Boats'R'Us bimini with an aluminum frame that I sometimes
mount on Calypso. I can just stand under it and, since I fixed the boom
at the top end of the boom track, the boom just clears it. The legs
mount to the deck just outside the coamings with detent-pins for quick
disconnection.
I secure the aft end downward to the ends of the track. This lets me
sail with it up, at least in light to middling winds. The mainsheet does
push it around a bit, but the aluminum frame gives way and bounces back.
It gives some shade.
