[Public-List] Another Spinnaker question

Gord,
What folks are referring to as a Spinnaker pole "downhaul" I call a "fore-guy". What is the proper terminology for this device? Most fore-guys I have seen are rigged to a turning block mounted to a pad eye on the fore deck about halfway between the mast and the stem fitting.
The reasoning I believe is that the pole can be adjusted, at will, fore and aft during shifty light air sailing. With this arrangement there is enough downward force to keep the pole from skying in all but wild circumstances. The guy and fore guy work in opposition to each other. When one is trimmed the other must be eased.
On SURPRISE I suspect your arrangement does not require the easing of the "downhaul" prior to easing or trimming the guy as it pivots on the same plane as the pole to mast connection? Does your rig allow you to easily move the pole forward in light air conditions? What I mean is if there is a shift but the air is not enough to have the spinnaker move the pole forward.
I would appreciate your comments on what you have observed is the better arrangement for the Alberg 30. Does the guy/fore guy arrangement have merits or is the guy/downhaul arrangement preferred?

I see I left a part out.....
The snap hook on the end of the line through the block is snapped onto the
guy above the block...when it's hauled down it effectively deflecting it
down to resist the spinnaker's tendency to make the end of the pole rise.
Before a gybe it's easy to ease the line from the winch, then remove the
choker (or Barber Hauler, or whatever) from the guy so that there's no metal
flogging around.
