The boat was rolled and dismasted. Looks like an Alberg 35. It didn't remain 
inverted as Albergs have a very good capsize screening ratio well below 2. 
So she would have come back up, minus the mast.

He's lucky to be alive. Not sure I am buying this whole story though either.
