Thank you for that information Richard. When you say not self contained, what do you mean? Yours is clearly a far more substantial unit than the one I had. I was not aware of the ST400. It sounds like if would be very effective. I did have installed a new Garmin 740. (? I think) chartplotter last year on the bulkhead and it's a great unit that shows GPS, headings, depth, speed and waypoint headings so to that extent I guess the unit would be a little redundant but the displacement that it will handle is excellent.
