Don't forget to add 3 feet for the whip antenna if you have a VHF on the
top of the mast. I figure about 43 for my boat, but I wouldn't be keen on
having to be that exact for purposes of going under a bridge--or
powerlines! I know a guy who now has an artificial hand and foot from
hitting a power line in his sailboat. He won the law suit, but for an
extremely high price. Don't fool around with close margins, eh?

Lining up your crew on one side or the other would tip the boat and thus
provide a foot or so less height. Haha.
