[Public-List] Cockpit floor hatch?

Jonathan, Glenn,

There seem to have been two different ideas in this cockpit hatch 
discussion. Glenn suggested that he had good results with a very large 
20" x 24" hatch, which evidently can be strong enough and provides 
useful access. My own experience is that the 8" circular hatch in my 
boat has not been of much use. I think it likely that the 10" won't be 
too much better, though it is is about 1.5x the area of my 8" hatch. 
Glen's hatch is about 6x the area of the 10" circular hatch.

Where you locate it is also a consideration -- you could have it further 
aft, closer to the prop shaft packing gland, or closer to the back of 
the engine if that access is more important. Not knowing what kind of 
engine you have and where the key engine accessories, like the water 
pump, are located, I can't really speculate about the best location.
