[Public-List] Sorry about that but starting to plan haul out!

I keep a couple copies of a picture of the boat hanging in the slings
on the boat. When the yard is ready for me I give the lift operator a
copy so he can see what he is up against. This is in addition to sling
marks and I insist on the slings being tied together.

I agree with Gord- "insist on tying lines between the fore and aft slings as low
as is practical so as to inhibit the slings from slipping out wards."

Some operators do not tie a line between the fore and aft slings. We do the Satu
rday crane coop lifts up here. I have witnessed the front sling come off of a Ca
talina 30 when it was about 10 feet above the water. Luckily the crane operator
had just started to swing the boat and it was still over water.

Also, if you put the aft sling under the keel, which I also recommend, be carefu
l it is not on the foot of the rudder when they start to lift.

Don't know how you pay for your crane, but around here it is a combination of a
base charge plus so much per minute. Pre planning the haulout can save you a lot
of money when you are paying by the minute.

Hi there.

I've seen lifts on out boats done with the after sling aft of the rudder, but I
feel the safest is with the after sling catching the keel just forward of the he
el of the rudder.

Surprises sling stickers are in the vicinity of her sheet winches.

I insist on tying lines between the fore and aft slings as low as is practical s
o as to inhibit the slings from slipping out wards.

Happy landing!

d the lifestyle and got to adopt the old girl (Avoca 322) as ours! Amazing the
amount of compliments an Alberg gets over a summer! But all good things come to
an end and I have started planning the haul out (another first for me)! On the
boat there are stickers and black dots affixed to the sheer that appear to iden
tify lift points (as the stickers say lift) for travel lift or crane. One point
is aft of the rudder, basically under the lazarette portion of the keel startin
g at the rear of the cockpit. The other is at the front close to forward shroud
area, none for under the keel which seems to be the preferred lift point based
on searching the archives. I had issues with the keel splitting at the forefoot
last winter (fixed hopefully) so would really prefer to support the keel if at
all possible.
