I much prefer travel lifts because the straps remain perpendicular to the hull rather than slung back from the bow, and forward from the aft, to the transverse lifting beam in the middle. With a crane lift, it is necessary to have an extension on the after sling to account for the full keel. It is necessary to tie the straps on both sides with a line as taut as possible for both lifts. I have the aft strap at the forward winch pockets and this is just ahead of the rudder shoe. Where the front strap is depends a bit on where you might have depth sounders and knotmeter propellers. I have had no trouble lifting either way , but from Gord's little house of horrors, you can see there are pitfalls aplenty. If the front strap is too far aft, it will carry the full load and the boat is very unstable when in that sling set up.
> I also have had correspondence from one owner who inherited the boat from her father, and he had had a yard lift the boat from under the lazarette and on that hull there were stress cracks on both after hips of the boat where the lifting stress started to buckle the hull with that arrangement. For that reason, I would suggest avoiding that area as a lift spot. While this list usually deals with only 30's, things are much different with the AL 22 and there is more support in the lazarette than the keel. That boat needs to be lifted aft of the rudder, since there is no strength in the aft keel.

Amazing the amount of compliments an Alberg gets over a summer! But all good things come to an end and I have started planning the haul out (another first for me)! On the boat there are stickers and black dots affixed to the sheer that appear to identify lift points (as the stickers say lift) for travel lift or crane. One point is aft of the rudder, basically under the lazarette portion of the keel starting at the rear of the cockpit. The other is at the front close to forward shroud area, none for under the keel which seems to be the preferred lift point based on searching the archives. I had issues with the keel splitting at the forefoot last winter (fixed hopefully) so would really prefer to support the keel if at all possible.

> Our marina is hiring our a crane for the haul out and I’m really clueless on adjustment to spreaders and harness to lift out the boat but there is also a travel lift at an another marina close by.
