Your question reminds me of the time our friends with their Corvette 31
joined us for a weekend sail... They brought their Newfoundland dogs.

Poor Joey and Mordred had a terrible time climbing in and out of their
dinghy for their morning duties...  One time Gord was aboard the boat with
the spinnaker halyard fixed to a sling around Joey hoisting while Adrienne
was underneath the dog pushing up on his wet bum while the dog hung forlorn
and awkward, not moving a muscle....

Then there's the Smeetons, the Canadian couple who were first to round Cape
Horn to windward in a yacht...  On some of their voyages they brought their
little terrier.  He was trained to do his business on a rope matt they laid
out for him each morning, then towed for a while to clean.   One time they
wrote they'd finally made landfall after a very long ocean crossing.  The
dog came ashore with them.  They were clearing customs at a village police
office and getting hell for bringing the dog ashore.  Suddenly the policeman
became very agitated... The dog had spotted the rope mat at the police
station's door.... What else would he do but poop on it?  Isn't that what
mats are for?
