[Public-List] chain plates

When I bought my boat , there was severe deck damage from water in the core, so I redid the deck. In the process, I solved the water leak problems to a great extent by building up a small riser on the deck at each of the seven chainplate areas so that I could put a 21/2” x 3” stainless plate on top of the riser and it was big enough that I could cut a hole for the chainplate in the stainless plate too. There are two bolts that bolt this stainless plate to the riser. Thus, the caulking is forced in to the gap around the chainplates by the threads and plate pressure, and, at the same time, the caulking also seals the stainless to the riser. With the risers, there is not quite as much water in contact with the through deck holes that the manufacturer’s system allowed. If you want the full story, contact me off list at dk.campbellatxplornet.ca (Replace the at with @). I have also had to redo the forward knees and used white oak instead of replacing plywood that had rotted there and separated from the tabbing, the hull and the shelves. I will send George a couple of Photos for the record.
