I think the problem is nmea requires signal processing, so what you will
need is a computer of some sort for your new network.
My tug has this airmar, I like it a lot, it has an onboard gps receiver.

Retail, this rig is probably over $1000.00 I may bid on this puppy myself.
I looked into airmars for Checkmate but 1. Cost and 2. Battery drain
running a computer just for awi makes it somewhat unattractive to me.
