[Public-List] A new engine adventure...Anyone using the engine water pump as a bilge pump?

Hello Clay,

Congratulations on Janus! There are Lots of family video of that boat on YouTube, it looks to be in great shape. I really like that seat arrangement and arch on the pushpit.

Be careful not to run the bilge dry if you are using the engine to drain it... that would require quite a hole in the hull. You need cooling water to the engine at all times or else you wreck the impeller (don't ask!)

Cheers,

Maurice

Hi, I just bought #449, Janus, and this is the arrangement that is on mywater intake except that a t-fitting leads to a shut-off valve that thenleads to the bilge leg. I haven't spent much time trying to figure it out;however it looks like there is no handle on the shut-off valve to open orclose the leg to the bilge. Do you think it is missing and needsreplacement or is the leg to the bilge left open all the time?ClayOn Thu, Jul 7, 2016 at 12:49 PM, Gordon Laco via Public-List <public-list at lists.alberg30.org> wrote:> That's good seamanship.
