Hello again,

Thanks for all your input, it is very tempting to do the job on the water as the travel lift is down river from my marina and i'm not sure they will let me work on the lift. Will call tomorrow to get info. Anyways, ends up have two of them that are split. I guess i must have left them closed over the winter and crack! Worse thing is i tighthened all hoses in the spring before launch and tested the handles but never looked closely at the valves themselves! Live and learn i am totally new to boating and The alberg is my first boat ever!

One is a 1 inch valve for the galley sink drain. The other is a 3/4 inch for the head water intake. I do not think that i have original seacocks from 1968 i took photos but not sure how to post. I have replacements bronze valves from the chandlery, wooden plugs and caps just in case, Just working up the nerves to do the job, we have a service dock that is in 5 to 6 feet of water i would not sink to low if things went south!

Yikes but thanks for great advice!

Maurice

>> Pressure n flow:The thru hull is only about 1' to 18" below the surface. A galley thru hole is probaly no more than 1" diameter. It's not that different than holding a 5 gallon can, with pour spout, upside down. The effective pressure head is about the same. How long does it take to dump one of those into the fuel tank? You can easily cap that with your hand. So, you are not dealing with high pressures.
>> Swapping:As you loosen the old one it will start to leak but there will not be any major flow until you lift it free. It will take a second or less to get the replacement started. The flow drops back as soon as you start to thread the new one.
>> Check for swing. You might find that you need to remove the handle (s) in order to rotate them.
