I think I recall seeing those dyneema loops when we sailed together that morning… They are but one of the many innovative features you’ve rigged your boat with.

Thanks again for a very pleasant morning on your boat.   Being a Canadian I was quite struck by the nonchalant way you described the large alligator who lives in the channel near your dock… Me: “is it large enough to be dangerous?”  You: “Oh I suppose so, we just keep track of where he is, he usually stays on the other side”.    Then later while we were sailing out in the open… Me: “Ah Dan, is that a big log in the water over there?”   You: “Ah, no, I think that’s the alligator, so he’s out here today….”

Reminds me of the famous story from WW2 days of how ships were piloted on the Newfoundland coast… an official from headquarters was aboard an armed merchant cruiser coming down the channels in heavy fog.  Official: “how will you know when we reach the turning point in the channel?”  Skipper (intent on building the fear he could see in his guest’s demeaner) “Oh we listen for Clem’s dog…Clem lives on the point and his dog always barks when a ship is coming by”.   The visitor spends the next half hour peering intently into the fog… then …. a dog’s bark is heard.  “There it is!  I just heard it!” he shouted to the skipper.   The skipper listens to the next bark, then shakes his head and says “Nope, that’s not Clem’s dog”.   The story goes that the visitor nearly filled his pants,...
