Greg i replaced my beam on another alberg model sailboat and maybe you would find what i used helpful. I removed the old beam with the mast down. Then i used the old beam as a template and made the new beam out of oak from Home Depot. White oak is said to be best but if you coat your wood in epoxy it doesn't matter what kind you use in my opinion as long as its oak hardwood with no knots.  I used car jacks to put it in place (light pressure) then i drilled through the beams to the bulkheads and thru bolted large bolts to hold the beam in place and under pressure. . I used West System with 404 added for bonding and gap filling.  If you use oak be sure to lightly coat your beam with West system epoxy to waterproof the wood. My repair has lasted 5 years and still is like new. Here is a link to my video of the boat restoration. You can see the beam in the video which is actually made up of  3 pieces like a sandwhich but bolted together and bonded with west system epoxy and 404 bonding agent. The stuff is very strong and waterproof. Its a messy job but you will save a ton of money.

This winter I intend to laminate a new mast beam.  Currently we have two very ugly aluminum plates bracing the original beam.
Does anyone have knowledge of this and if yes what material would you use? I'm thinking of 1/4 inch oak or ash strips to build the laminate. Also what glue would you use in the construction and why.
Any help appreciated and best wishes to all.
