Hello A-30 people,

I have not been following this mast brace discussion closely, but in the
last e-mail, I noticed that there was no mention of jacking up the mast
beam and through bolting it with reinforcement plates, which many A-30
owners have done over the years.

One point to be aware of is to be aware of leaving some clearance (I
left about 1/8" on my boat). Many years ago ago we did this with a
custom fabricated reinforcement. If the top edge of the metal reaches
the deck under maximum load you could cause further cracking, e..g on
the deck.

If you can find a source for the plates, another Alberger who has done
this might help you, or a boat yard could do it. This assumes that the
original brace is in "reasonable" shape, of course.

Best to all for the holidays and the new year,
