You have just reminded me that sailing involves about 1000 compromises. If sailing with a few turns on your furler is detrimental to the shape, life and speed of your genoa but results in your remaining safely in the cockpit and enjoying sailing in your 85th year - that sounds like a damned fine compromise to me.
