[Public-List] Hurricane help

Christian,

It depends. Are you on a mooring, fixed dock, floating dock? How protected
is the marina? Is it in a "hurricane hole" or is it more open?

So far, it looks like it's going to be a rain event farther up the Bay. My
boat's near Annapolis, on a creek with good protection from winds in all
directions. The biggest concern I have is surge. It's the strong
southerlies that can push a lot of water up the Bay. The last big blow that
caused severe surge and flooding was Isabel in 2003, and Isabel's center
passed just west of the Bay. "Florence" is predicted to be on a track well
to the south and west and dump a lot of rain on inland North Carolina and
southern Virginia. But I'll be watching it closely for the next few days.

Things that are in my storm plan, should I need to activate it. (I'm at a
fixed dock.)

1) Double up dock lines and install chafe protection.
2) Reduce windage--remove dodger and mainsail.
3) A few additional fenders wouldn't hurt.
