[Public-List] Shaft Seal / Stuffing box

Hi All,

I guess I'm a traditionalist...I'll stick with the good old tried and true
stuffing box and deal with a few drips, the main reason....everyone
understands these things. I suppose the down side might be in the limited
access to the stuffing box. My boat has a large access port in the cockpit
sole so I can readily and easily adjust/maintain my stuffing box. I've
also repacked many, many from my years in the yards so I'm not intimidated
when repacking either in the water or on the hard. A well maintained
stuffing box can last virtually forever I suppose. Also there's no need to
REALLY tighten the lock nut....these things are bronze (soft metal).

Wes
