[Public-List] Shaft Seal / Stuffing box

Andrew,

I'm confused by your note. In your description of the mismatch in size between the stuffing box and the stern tube, you fail to mention the bellows (which some call the hose) that connects the rear of the stuffing box with the front of the stern tube. It's the bellows that must accomodate the mismatch.

Have you looked for a bellows that is 1-3/8" on one end and 1-3/4" (the presumed outside diameter of the rear of the stuffing box) on the other? For example, the nitrile bellows shown with the dripless stuffing box in the link you provide is clearly a reducing design so they must be out there somewhere. Even if you can't find an exact match to the O.D. of stuffing box and stern tube, wouldn't compressing the bellows with hose clamps work?
