[Public-List] Tiller Pilot

We also have not had good luck with tiller pilots, the drive electronics in
our Autohelm 2000 failed twice.  Currently, we are using the linear drive
from the Autohelm tiller pilot hooked to an ST4000+ "below deck" autopilot
system. It holds a course much better than the tiller pilot did but gets
quickly overwhelmed by moderate seas.


We are planning on taking off for the Caribbean (and beyond) in a few years
and our homemade system would not hold up to full-time use,  so I have been
doing some research on new units. I like this one the best so far. It's a
bit more expensive than a tiller pilot, pretty bare bones, but it appears
to have a good reputation with offshore use.  I'm hoping to take a look at
it in person at the Annapolis Boat Show this year.
