My 2 QM15 Yanmar uses a right hand wheel(clockwise). The issue I have 
with the description is Yanmar's recommendation to keep the trans in 
neutral under sail. I have not seen that. Larger gears (Twin Disc on 
Tugs specifically) do not want the wheels spinning without the main 
engine running. It's a pressurized lubrication issue.
Paint a stripe on the shaft where the (2 bladed) prop is vertical and 
jam the shifter in FWD and sailing is optimized with no wear on gear 
bearings.
3 blade wheels are not possible to shield behind deadwood, but stopping 
their spin I would think is still desirable.
Also, it seems to me by putting the gear in reverse when under sail 
means the hydraulic pressure encourages the engine to run backwards.
