I have a hard dodger on #284. It was designed and built by the previous owner, who had a dream of sailing from New England to New Zealand. That never happened but the dodger has still proved very useful even for coastal sailing to keep spray and rain out of the companionway and to provide a protected dry spot for electronic instruments.
It has many nice features: (a) it is incredibly sturdy -- probably 1" thick fiberglass (although very heavy as a consequence); (b) it pivots at the rear attachment so it can be tilted for some breeze; (c) it is wired on both left and right sides for electricity so I can charge my iPad while using it to navigate; (d) it has built-in gutters on each side to gather rainwater and detachable tubes to drain it off.
On the down side, it severely obstructs forward vision; it is difficult to see over especially for my wife and has no windows in it. I've thought about installing windows but haven't figured out yet how to do that since the dodger is continuously curved.
I have recently started to run my lines back to the cockpit and the dodger complicates that. At present, I prop up the front of the dodger an inch or two and run the lines underneath the front edge. But I plan to add holes to run the lines through. There is also little clearance between my new winch and the dodger so I've had to get a low profile winch handle.
I don't have the plans for the dodger but if anyone would like pictures let me know.
