Also, why would it be fine between 900-1200 and then be erratic at higher rpms?

I checked the charging at the alternator and it was only putting out 11 volts. Talked to a couple friends who knew a lot about electrical systems and they thought voltage regulator. I found one online, ordered it and installed it. No difference. Bad diode? I thought I would get a new 55 amp (since they don’t have 35 amp anymore) and have the other rebuilt over the winter then I’d have a spare. So anyway, I got a new one from Moyer and installed it. Voila, output 30 amps and 14.2 volts. Sweet. Problem solved. I thought. Yesterday while motoring up to go through the causeway to Malletts Bay my volt meter started jumping around. Fine from 900-1200 rpms but above that the needle jumped around like crazy. It did that before the other one went bad, so I’m hoping someone can help me figure this out before I blow the alternator.
