Jonathan,

I have Bostic Never-Seez anti-seize/sealant that I used when I had to replace the iron pipe pieces going from my exhaust manifold to the standpipe muffler. You’re welcome to borrow it.

Dear Albergers,

One of the projects this winter is replacing the stuffing in the stuffing
box. To improve access to the stuffing box, I removed the waterlift
muffler, a Vetus item, located below the cockpit sole above the stuffing
box. In doing so, the heavy duty exhaust hose did not come off the
iron/steel threaded pipe segment but rather the pipe unscrewed from the
rest of the exhaust.

Found that the connection was sealed with a red, rubbery material. Don't
believe that I've ever seen such before. A photo of the material is at
https://drive.google.com/file/d/14F3F-42SbZWMayvyOYYkEgyuMRi2QX-o/view?usp=sharing

Does anyone know what the material is? What should I use to seal the
threaded pipe fitting during reassembly?

Thank you,
Jonathan
