I’d suggest that if in doubt, unstep the mast… it’s just a few minutes work, dead easy. It really should come down regularly and often for safety sake anyway.
That said, the toe rail has nothing to do with the integrity of the standing rigging, so you can do whatever you like, mast up or not,
