Good afternoon,
After sailing 441 for 2 years now and having a recent issue with the headsail halyard wrapping around the forestay at the top, I realized that whoever the PO used to install the furler used the higher spinnaker block instead of the lower jib block to attach the head of the sail. But in looking at this closer, I realized that it is pretty much impossible to use the original jib block aft of the forestay because it is too low for the system to work properly. The halyard attaches to a tang on the top swivel and that tang must be high enough to engage a wrap-stop device on top of the extrusion. The issue is that in the way it is set up, the spinnaker halyard ends up getting chafed over the jib block and the pull on the headsail is forward of the forestay instead along the aft side. I am not sure this can be changed without a major reconfiguration of the mast head.
Any insight is appreciated. I will be getting a new headsail soon and want to make sure this is corrected.
Marcelo
