It is possible to remove the ballast. But not easy. There
was a boat who used to come to the PNW Alberg rendezvous
on one the finest Alberg 30 ever. He had restored it to better
than new. He had glassed over the ports in the main cabin,
cut new holes and installed opening ports. Every piece of
wood gleamed. And he now had lead ballast. But all in
all it took him 7 years.
