I recommend the Phil Bolger designed Nymph, 7 foot 9, which you can find plans for in Dynamite Payson's book "Building the New Instant Boats." Stitch and glue, rows and tows very well, dead simple to build, (I spent about 40 hours on mine) and weighs about 60 lbs dry, so it's a good car topper too. One of the most clever aspects of this design is the longitudinal thwart which makes it easy to row for persons of different heights. That and its stability makes it a good boat for kids as well.
