Hi All,

I recently encountered a similar problem in my new-to-me boat that has a
SOLID hull layup similar to the A30...my old Datamarine depthsounder gave
up so I bought a Raymarine i50 unit and went with an in-hull (NOT
thru-hull) transducer...It works great! It uses an Airmar P79
transducer...The "head unit" can be installed stand-alone or it can be
placed on a NMEA network (Raymarine calls this Seatalk I believe)...it has
BIG numbers for us with old eyes...I'm not too concerned with the location
of the transducer as, if you do the math, at five knots, when the water
gets skinny, you don't have the reaction time no matter where the
transducer is located :-)
