[Public-List] Public-List Digest, Vol 4320, Issue 1

I am a live-aboard, singlehanded day sailor and I routinely use my 2005 SimradTP22 as a third hand to hold the tiller while standing at the mast, when raising, stowing and reefing my mainsail. It also works OK for short duration compass course sailing (I have no electronics) in steady wind conditions.

I routinely use sheet-to-tiller steering which allows me to move freely about the boat while taking hours long breaks from steering. This works well for me in highly variable (direction and strength) wind conditions. Webb Chiles singlehandedly circumnavigated his Moore 24 without a wind vane using sheet-to-tiller steering. Unfortunately, like sailing in general, this is a skill that has taken me many, many months of diligent trial and error practice to obtain. It has been an enjoyable and rewarding experience for me but it takes efforts to learn. Also unfortunately, what I have taken more thatn a year to self learn could probably be taught with several hours of hands on instructions. Two caveats: I have not found anything on YouTube that even half way approaches really functional sheet-to-tiller self-steering and my greatest advancement occurred when I ditched my weather-helm inducing 150% genoa for a much better balanced 110% genoa.

I had a ST 2000, seemed to work fine - keep it dry...I have no experience
with the others

I would recommend the TP32 as opposed to the TP22.  Heavier duty.  I bought
one (open box) on eBay several years ago and haven't had any trouble with
it.  The TP32 has automatic sea state adjustment, I just thought the TP22
was overly complicated with adjustments.  The TP32 I just turn it on, set
course, and let it go.

Al
I have the ST-2000 and have always been happy with its performance.  I use
it mostly when Single-handed, and mostly for motoring, but sometimes
sailing too . I have found I can use it upwind as long as the sails are
properly balanced .

I looked a bit and found this incredible deal
https://www.meftala.com/products/Raymarine-St2000-5-Ton-Tiller-Pilot?data_from=search_detail&variant_sku_code=117538-0-0-0-0-0-0

Normally the cost is a bit over $500 , and this offer is $40 .  Maybe
something is messed up.

Hi all,

I have discovered that water is leaking through the screws for the first
step into my cabin (drips down into the cabin) and I have no idea where to
start looking for the source(s) of the leak. Any help would be appreciated.

Extra credit. I am not getting email notifications when ppl reply, so have

Wade,  I had similar leakage in Dolce.  The water was seeping in around the edges of the hatch track runners..  mostly the aft ends as I recall.  I re-bedded the runners and screws with Dolphinite and stopped the leaks.
