Hello Wade,
My batteries are also down there in my #426 Surprise… I have no trouble reaching the lever of the ball valve on the engine’s intake. I use two somewhat larger marine batteries which sit far enough forward in the battery trough under the floor board that the aftermost does not obstruct access.
