For large vessels with two shafts it is usually not recommended to use the
transmission to lock a trailing  shaft.  Neither is it good to let the
shaft spin .  A separate shaft brake is the best solution.     For our 2
bladed props hidden behind the keel, the torque is not large and locking
with the transmission is acceptable.

I would be concerned about locking a three-blade, and  providing a
significant torque to the transmission when sailing fast
