[Public-List] Number plates

Hi Folks,So I just ran into two problems with my planned cruise to the Sea of Cortez.1. Getting insurance for a boat built in 1964 is turning out to be an issue.2. Mexico wants to see a VIN on my Coast Guard documents. My understanding, per the Coast Guard, is that builders didn't start putting serial numbers on hulls until the 70's. The curious thing is that there is a builders plate on the bridge deck. It has 306443 for the serial number. I remember a post years ago in which someone was asking these plates. I think a group of owners ordered some from a vendor  because they either never had one or it had been lost. Does anyone know any details about this? Any idea when Whitby started putting builder plates on?Regards,Greg
