> Dear Alberg family,I thought some of you who have sailed in the Syronelle Regatta in Canada, would be interested to know that our son, Colin Campbell, is participating in the Globe40 2 hander race around the world. He often joined us to help crew for Don, so you would have met him then.

> He joined Melodie Schaffer, another Canadian Sailor, on her Class 40 boat "Whiskey Jack" in Reunion Island, East of Madagascar, mid November, to help her sail from there to Sydney. It has all been last minute arrangements and excitement, as Melodie's previous co-skipper re-injured an old injury and was not able to continue. Colin, having long been wishing and planning to do this, had been in touch with Melodie regularly over the past year, to encourage her and support her on her quest. So when he contacted her during the second leg of the race, as they were sailing around Cape of Good Hope, she asked him if he would be interested in helping her with the next leg.........so here we are. He is there after a mad 2 weeks of being approved, doing the offshore safety course, getting new foul-weather gear etc. The beginning of the 3rd leg of the race from Reunion Island to Sydney started on Nov.21st, and they are currently South of Western Australia. There are 8 boats in the race, but one has had to retire because of equipment failure. If you are interested in following their boat "Whiskey Jack" on the tracker, go to the website and click the tracker/ "cartographie" and it shows you where they are. He is also going to be doing the 4th leg of the race from Sydney to Valparaiso, Chile, departing Jan.1st.Also, if you are on instagram, he is posting great videos and documenting his trip. > So I will be in warm climes for Christmas. I just hope we don't have another big snow storm when I am about to take off, as that will put a spanner in the works!! I will be celebrating an early Christmas with Lesley and Dasch just before I leave. Then I will be having a very different Christmas and New Years. Melodie and Colin are hoping to arrive in Sydney about Dec. 20th, but that all depends on the weather and how they manage.
