[Public-List] Elderly Person Sailing Slowly Essay

Hey Mike,
When I went to the Bahamas a few years ago we installed a lafrans manual
windlass. It was really perfect for us, and allowed easy (no engine) sail
away from anchor. Sarah even enjoyed doing the anchor work because of how
easy it was.

We had all chain, which could be messy in the muddy Chesapeake, but Jim
Palmer thought us a nice trick. Crank in a bit in the windlass until chain
is taught, use boat pole to vigorously shack the tight chain to clean mud,
crank more and repeat. Jim also has the same windlass, and suspect he would
give it high marks as well.

Cheers
