 Hello Shipmates.  

 If any of you heard a brutal, primitive, foul roar of triumph about one hour ago... that was me test starting SURPRISE's Atomic IV engine.  Not only did the batteries retain full charge despite the abuse and neglect of overwintering in the boat, they spun the engine so it fired up and revved in a most healthy manner.  I shut it off so as not to stress the water pump impellor once the pink non-toxic antifreeze cleared... but there was still something echoing off the slab-sided stink potters around me.  Yes, that was me roaring 'SHE LIVES!!!!’  

 I'd first rolled up and stowed her ancient canvass tarp; we call it The Shroud of Turin after the famous one because mine still bears the imprint of my previous boat... the Danish-built 1947 vinatage Folkboat I keep talking about.  There, I did it again...  Well anyway, the tarp is off, the engine is test fired... launch is only weeks away.  We have a very nice winter berth this past cold season... shelter from the monsterous motorboats around us (about the only time we're glad to see them) electrical power nearby… and the marina’s playground swings right beside us.    Hey, who doesn't like swings? 

We had a freighter overwinter in our harbour and that caused an icebreaker to come in to bust it out a few weeks ago.  That really helps the harbour’s ice cover to get the message and bugger off.  It’s supposed to pour rain here tomorrow but that’s good.  Rain will rinse off the winter crud from the boat’s decks and also wash winter salt off the roads… and THAT means my MG will be on the road later next week.  This is the beginning of my 40th season with that car.
