So many ways to enjoy sailing the Alberg.
I haven't made a study, but here on Chesapeake Bay the double reef
option is not an automatic thing. I have it, but, going out on a limb,
<60% could. I had it added to my original sail when I found myself
cruising the Gulf, including it in my latest sail build, but I have
double reefed maybe 4 times total. There is a reason Chesapeake sailors
are considered the best light air sailors in the world lol. Of course, I
am also as committed as possible to being a fair weather sailor that I
can be. A big reason why I remain on the Bay-lots of great anchorages.
So, heaving to. The definition is backing the jib so the main and jib
work against each other. You are saying in 30 knots of wind (and I am
puckered up just writing that), with forward motion stopped, two
blocking the mainsheet, and lashing the tiller to windward the boat
heaves to without the main beating itself to death? And no Jibing?
