<DIV><FONT color=#000000 size=2>I'm the proud owner of "Cyrena",
</FONT><FONT color=#000000 size=2>a 1971 Alberg 30 </FONT><FONT color=#000000
size=2>hull # 466 (as per markings on the main) </FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT color=#000000 size=2>and am located near the </FONT><FONT
color=#000000 size=2>city of Ottawa (Canada) </FONT><FONT color=#000000
size=2>which is about a 5 hour drive North East </FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT color=#000000 size=2>of Whitby Ontario. There are 3 or 4 of us Alberg
30 owners on the river up here.</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT color=#000000 size=2>One of the previous owners installed wheel
</FONT><FONT color=#000000 size=2>steering on the boat</FONT><FONT color=#000000
size=2>. I bought it last November </FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT color=#000000 size=2>after it had been <FONT color=#000000
size=2>layed up for the winter and I was a little concerned that it would be
difficult </FONT></FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT color=#000000 size=2><FONT color=#000000 size=2>to access
</FONT><FONT color=#000000 size=2>the winches from behind the wheel. But it
turns out the setup <FONT color=#000000 size=2>works quite
well.</FONT></FONT></DIV>
<DIV>The pedestal was installed relatively forward of the cockpit, slightly
</FONT><FONT color=#000000 size=2>behind the location of the </FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT color=#000000 size=2>winches. The tiller arm was cut off about half
way, a hole was </FONT><FONT color=#000000 size=2>made on the end to
</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT color=#000000 size=2>accommodate the Autohelm 1000 that came with it
(I only use it when I must </FONT><FONT color=#000000 size=2>do long
</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT color=#000000 size=2>motoring distances when there is no wind). It
also acts as an emergency tiller should anything </FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT color=#000000 size=2></FONT><FONT color=#000000 size=2>go wrong with
the </FONT><FONT color=#000000 size=2>wheel steering. The size of the wheel is
relatively small and even at that it </FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT color=#000000 size=2>can be cumbersome </FONT><FONT color=#000000
size=2>to get around, not really while sailing but mostly when I'm anchored or
</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT color=#000000 size=2>docked and need to </FONT><FONT color=#000000
size=2>go into the cabin. I guess if it really bothered me I could look into one
of </FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT color=#000000 size=2>those removable </FONT><FONT color=#000000
size=2>wheel setups I've seen in some magazine somewhere.</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT color=#000000 size=2>Anyhow, I'm going to finish my winter lay up
