Sometimes the manufacturers let acid core into the rosin core solders.

Acid core is the death knell for marine wiring.   It wouldn't

surprise me to find that they slipped you acid core solder. The  point

about physically securing the wire is critical near the connection point,

be it a mechanical or rosin solder 60/40 lead tin.
